Why your feet sweat in shoes — and how linen fixes it

Feet have more sweat glands per square centimetre than almost anywhere else on the body. Seal them inside a synthetic insole and that moisture has nowhere to go — so it lingers, warms, and becomes the breeding ground for the bacteria that cause odour.

Linen behaves differently. Flax fibre is hollow and highly absorbent, wicking moisture away from the skin and releasing it into the air. It is naturally antibacterial, so shoes stay fresher for longer, and thermoregulating, so feet feel cool in summer and warm in winter.
